Memorial Day Parade 2013

Members of the Somerville Police Department, led by the Somerville Police Honor Guard marched in the annual Memorial Day parade.  The MIT Police Honor Guard also marched in tribute to Officer Sean Collier, who was killed in the line of duty last month.

Somerville Police Officially Open New Roll Call Room

With today being Peace Officers Memorial Day, it seemed fitting that the Somerville Police officially opened a new roll call room.  The opening ceremony and memorial day remembrances also included a presentation of an American flag which was flown over Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  The flag and certificate was presented to the Somerville Police Department by one of our own officers, Randy Isaacs, who is also a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and served in Afghanistan.

A Message from Chief Pasquarello on the Passing of Ofc. Sean Collier

Yesterday, our friend and colleague, MIT Police Officer Sean Collier was laid to rest.  The nation has grieved his loss, but the communities of MIT and Somerville where he served so proudly, have been especially saddened.  Sean loved his job as a police officer with the MIT Police Department and we are fortunate that as his career developed with MIT, that Sean remained a part of our family and our lives.  The Somerville Police Department is proud of the Officer that Sean became with MIT and the bond that the MIT Police Department developed with our fallen son.

With the full support of the MIT Police Department, now is the Somerville Police Department’s time to extend the honor in memorializing the service of Sean’s service to the city of Somerville.  Sean was a Somerville Auxiliary Police Officer for three years before he became a civilian employee of SPD for three years.  The Somerville Police Department sponsored Sean through the Police Academy, where he finished top of his class. He loved this city and especially this Police Department where he was loved by all. On June3, 2013, Sean would have been appointed as a Police Officer for the City of Somerville.  

In recognition of his dedication, professionalism and service to the Somerville Police Department, Mayor Curtatone and the Somerville Police Department will request the Board of Aldermen to approve Sean’s appointment, posthumously, to the Somerville Police Department at tonight’s BOA meeting.  Sean’s family will be present and all are invited to attend this meeting at 7:00pm at Somerville City Hall.   Thank you to all that have sent cards and posts to the Somerville Police Department as we continue to grieve the loss of our friend, colleague and brother officer.
