Somerville Police are investigating an indecent assault and battery that occurred late Thursday evening. At about 11:30 p.m., a 23 year old woman was walking to a friend’s home, from the Porter Square MBTA station. As she passed the area of Elm Street and Holyoke Road, she was approached from behind by an unknown suspect, pushed into a car and indecently Assaulted. The victim screamed, causing the attacker to flee.
The victim described the suspect as a white male, in his mid-twenties, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and was clean shaven. He was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt with the hood pulled up and possibly jeans. The suspect fled toward Elm Street.
Somerville Police are advising women who may be walking alone to take some common sense safety precautions. Try to walk on well lit routes whenever possible. Avoid wearing headphones or earbuds and listening to loud music. Keep your cell phone accessible and avoid distracting phone calls. Trust your instincts and avoid dangerous situations. If you think that someone is following you, try to get to a lighted area with other people. If you feel that you are in danger, call 911 right away.
This incident has similarities to several other late night assaults on women in the past few months. Somerville Police are working together with Cambridge Police, Transit Police, Medford Police, Harvard University and Tufts University Police to identify and apprehend this suspect.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Somerville Police at 617 625-1212 or text 617SPD to Tip411.

At about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, Somerville Police responded to 10 Illinois Avenue for a report of gunshots. Upon the arrival of police, they discovered a 35 year old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the front porch. The victim was transported to an area hospital where his wounds were determined to be non-life threatening. Police also discovered a parked vehicle that had also been struck by a single gunshot.
Somerville Police and State Police Crime Scene Investigators gathered evidence throughout the night and continued their investigation throughout the weekend. Detectives learned from the evidence that there were shots fired from two different caliber weapons. As the investigation continued, with the help of cooperating witnesses, detectives were able to obtain the identity of the first suspect. Early Monday morning, Detective Paul Duffy obtained an arrest warrant for Fonge Pierre, age 32 of Chelsea for (1) armed assault with intent to murder, (2) assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, (3) unlawful possession of a firearm and (4) discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. With the assistance of the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, State Police and Chelsea Police, detectives were able to locate Pierre in Chelsea and placed him under arrest. He was also charged with an outstanding warrant for unrelated drug charges in Everett.
Detectives also located and identified a second suspect in Chelsea. He was arrested by State Police on unrelated drug charges. Somerville Detective Duffy obtained an arrest warrant Somerville Court on Tuesday morning charging him in connection with the Somerville shooting incident. His identity will be withheld until he has been formally charged.
Chief Thomas Pasquarello expressed his appreciation to both residents and the law enforcement agencies who assisted Somerville Police with identifying and locating these subjects. “This is an excellent example of the community and police working together to solve crimes”, said Chief Pasquarello.
Forge Pierre is expected to be arraigned in Somerville District Court on Tuesday morning. The second suspect has just been arrested in Chelsea and will likely be in Somerville District Court later today. No photos are available at this time.

On Saturday morning, September 10th, at about 12:45 a.m., a 25 year old woman was indecently assaulted as she walked on Wallace Street. The victim was grabbed from behind and assaulted before she screamed, apparently scaring off the suspect. The suspect then fled down Wallace Street toward Holland Street.
The victim described the suspect as a dark skinned white male, possibly in his twenties/thirties, 5-04 to 5-07, clean shaven, had a slight unknown accent although he spoke perfect English, had thick eye brows, dark colored eyes, and no visible scars, marks or tattoos. The suspect was wearing blue jeans, a very dark hoodie shirt that had some type of design on the chest, and the hoodie was up so she couldn’t see the color or length of the suspect’s hair. An artist’s sketch of the suspect is depicted above.
Anyone with information about this incident or who may know the identity of this suspect is urged to contact Somerville Police at 617 625-1212. Det. Sgt. Richard Lavey is the primary investigator for this case.
